Students at Nazareth College, a private nonprofit institution in New York, held a protest Saturday over concerns about racism and a lack of diversity on campus.

The protest was in response to the abrupt departure of faculty members who were allies to students of color, according to local news channel WROC. Students said that Nazareth instructors have “either been pushed out” or “didn’t feel valued” at the college.

Protestors also alleged that the school has removed diversity courses from its curriculum, WROC reports.

In a press statement, Nazareth President Beth Paul said that she is “keenly aware of the realities of racism” and that the college is working to create an inclusive community.

“We support our students’ activism and take their concerns seriously. Moreover, we encourage their advocacy and participation in the process of change,” Paul stated.
