INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education, announced Sept. 14, the 92 recipients of its annual Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. The HEED Award is the only national award honoring U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. The 2015 honorees will be featured in the publication’s November 2015 issue.
HEED Award recipients were selected based on their institution’s exemplary diversity and inclusion initiatives and include all aspects of diversity, including gender, race, ethnicity, veterans, people with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ community.
“The HEED Award process consists of a comprehensive and rigorous application that includes questions relating to the recruitment and retention of students and employees — and best practices for both; continued leadership support for diversity; and other aspects of campus diversity and inclusion,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “We take a holistic approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient. Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across their campus.”

A call for applications for the HEED Award was announced in March 2015. Award recipients include community colleges, public and private schools, baccalaureate-granting institutions, graduate and healthcare schools, and a school system. Applicants received a comprehensive assessment to determine each institution’s level of success with regard to diversity and inclusion among its students, suppliers, faculty, and administrative staff.
