High Point University’s Affordable Housing Investment

High Point University (HPU) is contributing $500,000 to the Housing Impact Fund toward the construction of affordable, quality homes for local families.

A partnership between High Point Community Foundation (HPCF) and Self-Help Ventures Fund, the goal of the Housing Impact Fund is to construct more than 1,000 new units that will benefit residents earning 30-80% of the area median income, ensuring that essential workers and families have stable, quality housing close to their jobs.

HPU President Nido Qubein shared the news at an event Thursday, where he met with former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and was joined on stage by HPCF President Paul Lessard and HPCF Chair Barry Safrit to receive the donation.

“We believe in the future and prosperity of the city of High Point, and we understand that teachers, healthcare providers and other essential workers are critical to our community thriving and continuing to be a great place to raise a family,” said Qubein. “This donation will help essential workers and their families have access to affordable housing and ensure they can live in the city where they work.”

This marks HPUs third six-figure donation of 2025. On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Qubein announced a $250,000 donation to Business High Point to support local minority entrepreneurs and the development of the Washington Street Historic District, and earlier, on January 8, Qubein presented a $100,000 donation to Rev. Franklin Graham to aid Samaritan’s Purse in providing relief for those affected by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina and wildfires in California.

“Dr. Qubein and High Point University have always stepped up and supported the High Point Community Foundation and the greater community of High Point when a need arises,” said Lessard. “This Housing Impact Fund is an ambitious project that absolutely will change the quality of life for so many folks in High Point. We are grateful for the support and honored to call High Point’s University our teammate and faithful benefactor to our community.”
