Melanie Harrington

Chief Executive Officer, Vibrant Pittsburgh

Melanie Harrington serves as the CEO of Vibrant Pittsburgh, a nonprofit economic development organization spearheading initiatives to attract, retain, elevate and educate a diverse workforce in the Pittsburgh region.

Previously, Melanie served as the president of the American Institute for Managing Diversity, Inc. (AIMD), a national nonprofit diversity think tank based on Atlanta, Georgia.  AIMD conducts research, education and public outreach programs on the issue of diversity.  On behalf of AIMD, Ms. Harrington appeared on CNNfn, the public radio program Marketplace and has conducted interviews for various local and national publications including Black Enterprise Magazine, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Atlanta Tribune, Training Magazine and HR Magazine.

Ms. Harrington served as general counsel for D.J. Miller & Associates, Inc. (DJMA), a national management consulting firm that specializes in serving federal, state and local government agencies.  From 1995 to 2001 she was responsible for overseeing all legal matters for the firm and directing various projects including labor and employment matters.  Prior to joining DJMA, Ms. Harrington served as senior associate at the Ewing Group Law Firm specializing in employment litigation.

Ms. Harrington received her Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law and her BA from the University of Pennsylvania in Psychology.  She serves as chair of the Pittsburgh Dignity and Respect Campaign.  Ms. Harrington previously served as president of the League of Women Voters Atlanta Fulton County from 2005 to 2008; was a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2004; co-chaired the Leadership Atlanta Education Impact Team from 2004 to 2006; and was a member of the board of the Atlanta Legal Diversity Consortium.
