Joe Santana

Senior Director, Diversity, Siemens USA

Joe Santana has been with Siemens since 1998 and is currently Senior Director of Diversity in the United States.  Joe is a broadly experienced, seasoned diversity and inclusion executive with a solid business P&L track record. For example, in one of his pre-diversity roles at Siemens he successfully managed a $45 million dollar business portfolio with a staff of 300 as the NY/NJ Outsourcing Area Director for the distributed computing division. His business philosophy across all functions is simple: "Everything done within a business must be designed to increase that business’s competitive position and if a strategy isn’t innovative, it probably isn’t too competitive!"

His recent accomplishments in diversity and inclusion at Siemens include the successful development and implementation of a strategic competitive diversity governance model in the United States as well as a diversity capability metric system, for which in 2008 he was given a Diversity Officer Leadership Award by Diversity Best Practices. Joe was also listed among the "Most Important Hispanics in Technology, Government and Business" by Career Communications Group, Inc in 2010 and 2011. He continues his broad work in the innovative evolution of diversity and inclusion practices as a writer, association advisor and member of non-profit Boards.

In a parallel track to his work in finance, IT, sales, operations, training and now diversity, over the course of over 20 years, Joe has also been the writer of a number of articles, white papers and books on various management topics. To date a few of the media organizations that have published his articles and papers include the American Management Association, Diversity Executive magazine, PR Shultz Reports,CIO Update, TechRepublic, HR.com, The Motivational Manager, The Mentor, Customer Service Review Magazine, Small Business Technology Review Magazine and Diversity Best Practices. (Numerous magazines in Asia, Europe and Africa have also re-published this work in several languages). Joe is credited with opening the way towards understanding how diversity practices need to be developed within a business to business environment as opposed to a business to consumer environment with the publication by Diversity Best Practices of his groundbreaking white paper "Generating Effective Effective Diversity and Inclusion Best Practices for Your Business to Business Environment."

In addition to his own published work, Joe has also been quoted in numerous articles and books by other authors including Thomas Friedman's best seller, "The World is Flat."
