Transgender Man Sues Over Firing From Job Requiring Men Only |
El' Jai Devoureau, a transgender employee hired by Camden, New Jersey-based Urban Treatment Associates to oversee urine tests administered to men, has filed a discrimination lawsuit after claiming he was fired after being confronted about his gender last summer. Devoureau said Urban Treatment Associates questioned him about his gender a day after he started working in the position, which had been open only to male candidates. The case challenges an employer's right to eliminate transgender candidates for positions that the law says may be gender-specific.
