LGBT Community Sees New Hospital Visitation Rights as a Victory

New federal regulations regarding hospital visitation rights went into effect on January 25, allowing patients to have more control over their medical decisions. The rules were first proposed by President Obama in an April memorandum and later implemented by the Department of Health and Human Services after a period of public review. The new regulations require hospitals that accept Medicare and Medicaid to allow all patients to decide visitation rights and determine who they will trust with making medical decisions on their behalf.
