Illinois Senator Calls for More Diversity in Government

Outgoing Illinois Senator Roland Burris delivered a farewell speech on the Senate floor on Nov. 18 and used much of it to call for more diversity in government. After Burris leaves, the Senate will have no black members -- a fact Burris said was painful to him.  The great-grandson of a slave, Burris said his time in the Senate was "a remarkable testament to our nation's ability to correct the wrongs of generations past," but also said that his departure is a "solemn reminder of how far we have to go."
