Hooters Waitress Files Lawsuit For Being Told She’s Too Fat

Roseville, MI native Cassandra Smith had received high marks during the two years she worked as a waitress at a local Hooters restaurant, but everything changed on May 14. That’s that day Smith claims her civil rights were violated when store managers and corporate employees threatened to fire her if she didn't lose weight during a 30-day probation period. The 5-foot-8,132-pound Smith filed an antidiscrimination lawsuit on May 24 against the restaurant chain, claiming that they had no right to fire her for weight reasons, especially when her weight "is within the medically acceptable range (and is, in fact, at the low end of the range)."
