Report: Canadian Boards Lack Diversity

In its report assessing diversity on the boards of Canada's largest companies, the Canadian Board Diversity Council this week found the proportion of female board members ranged from a little more than 20 percent in the utilities sector to as low as 6.6 percent in the areas of mining, quarrying, and oil and gas. While 73 percent of the corporate directors surveyed believe their boards are diverse, the council said more needs to be done and is calling on companies to replace vacant board seats with someone from a "diverse" background, which could include women, visible minorities and people with disabilities.
