Drive to Legalize Gay Marriage in Washington State Begins

A broad, statewide coalition of civil-liberties groups, unions and businesses in Washington state announced plans on November 14 to make gay marriage legal next year. Calling itself Washington United for Marriage, the coalition is also composed of Equal Rights Washington, Human Rights Campaign, Legal Voice, and Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest. Momentum for gay marriage has been building in recent months. In October, UCFW 21, a 35,000-member private-sector union - the state's largest - announced its support of gay marriage. And in September, a poll by Seattle political consulting firm Strategies 360 found support for gay marriage in Washington state at 54-35. Click here to read more.
