McDonald's Does Diversity Right

Patricia Sowell Harris is the global chief diversity and inclusion officer at McDonalds and is responsible for the diversity programming that affects 1.8 million employees across 117 countries. Given her humble beginnings - she was a "fry girl" at a McDonalds location in 1976 - Harris is aware of how important diversity is on both sides of the counter. Today, 45% of McDonalds franchise owners are women and minorities. Harris faced some controversy last year when a French commercial that was a part of the company's "Come as you are" campaign showed a young gay man eating in a McDonald's with his father, who didn't know his son is gay. The ad caused negative reactions from the public who found it inappropriate. Click here to read more.
